Shadows of Light
Tirius has always been faithful to the teachings of Landalin, where passivism is praised and wielding Fabriclight and Ashlight is strictly forbidden. When he’s beaten for his beliefs by followers of the opposing religion, the Doctrine of Harmony, the woman he loves saves him, putting herself at risk. Tirius must then choose how strictly he will follow Landalins teachings if he hopes to protect himself and those he loves.
Shad, Tirius’s cousin, has no such reservations. Neglected and abused by everyone that should have cared for him, Shad is determined to make a name for himself as the newest apprentice to the leader of the Doctrine of Harmony. As a trained wielder of magic, no one would be able to look down on him or dismiss him again. And all it will cost him is his cousin Tirius.
This epic fantasy is still a work-in-progress. But you can read the award-winning first chapter by joining my newsletter.
SHADOWS OF LIGHT melds religion into a rich magic system similar to Brent Weeks’s LIGHTBRINGER series, a mentored protagonist like in Christopher Paolini’s INHERITANCE CYCLE and drives toward the climax with unstoppable pacing like in Brandon Sanderson’s STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE.
Early readers say...
I'm having a better time with [Shadows of Light] than I did reading Brandon Sanderson's Elantris or Jim Butcher's Storm Front. Your scene-crafting is on point, the world feels real and fleshed out, and the momentum hasn't lost a beat since the first paragraph. ... Right from the beginning, you have me saying "Wait, what's that? Tell me more!"
This may be the best hook I've ever read.
